has been singing since the young age of 5 years old. He came from a musical family as his Grandma and other family members were traditional Korean opera singers.

Sam would often sing 4-5 opera songs, which is where he learnt his vocal techniques which has led to his ability to sing in a variety of styles. He is trained in both Eastern and Western variations of classical training. Since he has the experiences of both worlds, he is able to build a strong vocal foundation through utilizing proper breathing techniques.​

 

Sam came to the United States at 16 years old to study Italian opera under Dr. Dagmar who was a professor at NOVA community college. In college, he studied philosophy but practiced playing soul music on the side. One of his teachers was Joe Coleman from Whispers and Four Tops. After that, he competed in the Metropolitan Best contest hosted by Chuck Brown, and was the 2004 R&B winner​

In 2006 he auditioned for the MTV reality show, Making The Band with P. Diddy and was not only a finalist, but was also known as the best soul singer, as he constantly received standing ovations during his performances.​

 

He currently teaches voice lessons from his studio in Annandale, Virginia.

Sam enjoys working with all levels of experience and finds complete joy in helping others improve their vocal techniques.​ Sam has experience performing in a variety of settings as he has performed at over several hundred shows.

 

Here are some of his accomplishments thus far:

- 4 time winner at Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater in Harlem New York

​- Tom Joyer Morning SkyShow winner

- Opened for Aretha Franklin New York Times Square Nokia Center 

- Performed with American Idol Season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard, KC-Jojo, Brian McKnight at Constitution Hall

- Performed at the Barack Obama Presidential fundraising concert

- Appeared in the Smithsonian documentary on American Music History

 

​His current students have gone on to be successful contestants on The Voice, and most recently a top 40 contestant on American Idol.​
